Man, I’ve had more back luck with hard disks lately than any one person should have. After a really nasty power hit on my building a few months ago — one that destroyed the power supply in my Power Mac G4 — I’ve lost a total of three hard disks. Two died immediately, and one, which I’d moved into a FireWire enclosure, crapped out on me Tuesday night.
Ironically, all three of the drives were identical. I’d bought them all at the same time last year. I don’t remember the make or model, and I don’t feel like cracking open this case to find out, but they were all 200 GB parallel-ATA drives.
Fortunately I’ve got a backup of my music library on another FireWire at the office. But man, talk about a run of bad luck.
