Have you seen this?
Once upon a time, I relied heavily on the Firebug extension for Firefox for getting under the hood of Web projects I was developing. Firebug, while decidedly quirky, was an absolutely necessary part of my day, and the only reason I even had Firefox installed.
Those days are gone.
I guess I’ll still have to keep Firefox around to do a basic sanity check on new projects and make sure they don’t break drastically in that browser. But the days of having to keep Firefox and Safari running all the time just to do Web development are over, over, over.
I couldn’t be happier.

I just started playing with this a few minutes ago. While I don’t miss the transparency, I wish I had the room to see the elements highlight as I navigate through the page’s markup. Overall, it’s still a winner.

Derek, check out the buttons in the lower-left of the floating window. The second one allows you to toggle between a floating inspector and the inspector as a pane in the browser window. With the latter, there is less room for the web page, but the inspector never overlaps the web page.

Someone, I discovered this feature last night after complaining about it. It’s even better than I thought.
I don’t think people will be laughing at Safari any more. Any by “people,” I mean the minority aware of a browser other than IE.
