I believe in futility.
I believe in don’t-bother. I believe in there’s-no-point. I believe in could-have-been and would-have-been-nice and if-things-had-been-different.
I believe, in a nutshell, in giving up.
Call it a weakness of character if you want. I won’t take it personally.
I just consider it to be a greater-than-average sense of reality. Just reality, as the saying goes, on a finer scale.
I also believe, apparently, in hyphens.

I was going to say that I agree, but then I thought, “why bother?”

Hyphens are over-rated; I believe in semicolons.

The lesson is to never try.
I’d like to argue semantics with you, though - if you truly believed in futility, you’d see that it’s the effort that creates futility. By not trying, you’re simply giving up long before the task becomes futile.

Shouldn’t those be en dashes?
